摘要

The transport phenomenon occurs when a system is out of equilibrium. It is a fundamental problem in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics. An important methodology to model such situation is the nonequilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) method. NEGF is fully quantum-mechanical and applies excellently in the ballistic transport regime. In this talk, we give a brief introduction to this method, and then present some of the applications of the method to phonon heat transport, electron Seebeck effect, and finally near field radiative heat transfer. We also highlight the relevance of these theoretical works to experiments.

简介

https://www.physics.nus.edu.sg/~phywjs/wangjs15.jpgDr. Jian-Sheng Wang entered into Jilin University in the then “ Department of Semiconductors” in the cohort of class of 1977. This is the first group of students who had entrance exam to enter universities for the first time after 10 years of break. In 1982, he went to Carnegie-Mellon University for PhD in physics through the CUSPEA program. Together with his supervisor Robert Swendsen, they developed a novel Monte Carlo computer simulation method now known as the Swendsen-Wang algorithm, cited 3000 times (google scholar number) for this work alone. He is elected a fellow of the American Physical Society, and a full professor since 2005 at National University of Singapore. His current research interests cover nonequilibrium Green's function, quantum master equations, thermal and electron transport in nanostructures and oxides, and near field radiative heat transfer.
